Why Volunteer at Yr Ardd?

Yr Ardd is a community garden, created and cared for by local people — and it wouldn’t exist without the help of volunteers. Whether you can give an hour a week, or just pop by now and then, your time and support make a real difference.

You don’t have to be a keen gardener to get involved. There are lots of ways to lend a hand — planting and weeding, building and repairing, or simply making a cup of tea and chatting with visitors. Whatever your skills or experience, there’s a place for you here.

I just love this place, even in poor weather the sky lights up, the trees, the plants, the landscape, really most of all the friendship of everyone, you can just sit and contemplate with a cup of tea doing as much or as little as you can. Everyone has a different experience, and they are willing to share. If you want to plant seeds, grow veg or just have a chat and a catch up, this is for you; for the community, it works!

Our aims are to provide:

  • Opportunities to grow, harvest, and enjoy fresh fruit and vegetables.
  • A welcoming space to socialise, play, and help ease loneliness.
  • A variety of volunteering experiences to suit different interests and abilities.
  • Skills development that can boost employability and deepen knowledge of the natural environment.
  • A chance to use and celebrate the Welsh language, helping people connect with the land and with our shared roots.

Volunteering at Yr Ardd is also about enjoying the fresh air, being close to nature, and finding a sense of peace. Many of our volunteers say it helps their wellbeing and gives them a chance to slow down. The garden changes with the seasons, and being part of that cycle can be both grounding and rewarding.

A safe space where no one bothers you if you don't want to be bothered. People are kind and friendly, being outside is good for us all. So glad I was introduced to this project. There are great free courses: wildflowers, composting, poetry and food. Everyone welcomed; it makes my week!

We keep things flexible. Come when you can, stay as long as you like, and take on the tasks that suit you best. Tools, gloves, and guidance are always provided — all you need to bring is a willingness to join in.

If you’re interested in volunteering, we’d love to hear from you. By joining the team, you’ll not only help the garden to grow, but also strengthen the community that makes Yr Ardd such a special place.  To volunteer, and for more information please email us at yrardd@gmail.com.
